Telling people that they just need to "believe in themselves" is not enough. They have to show themselves why they can believe in themselves. This is where the true mind transformation takes place.
Belief happens when we do things that we thought we couldn't. When the impossible becomes possible.
So, what are 8 ways that you can show yourself that you can always count on yourself? That you deserve to be believed in?
1. Do what you think you can't do.
What I mean by this is, "If a voice within you says 'you cannot paint', then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced" - Pablo Picasso. When you do the thing that you thought you couldn't like a pull up, or 10 push-ups, etc. Then you start to learn to believe in yourself through action.
2. Let go of the need for acceptance.
When you no longer look for validation from others, then you start to believe in yourself, because you are validated from within. You are beautiful just the way you are, your ideas are powerful and inspiring, and whatever you want to do with your life, and whoever you want to be, be it. Allow your authentic self to shine through, acceptance is just on the other side.
3. Set a goal in fitness
This related to #1, but fitness and specifically setting a goal, like signing up for a 5k, half marathon, or marathon, or committing to doing 20 push-ups a day, teaches us habit, commitment, determination, and the feeling of success.
4. Be reliable
When you say you are going to do something, do it. If you can't, then don't commit, no matter why you think you can or should. If you aren't going to follow through then don't commit. This triggers self sabotaging behaviors that drive us to not believing in ourselves. But, when you say you are going to pick your friend up at the airport, then be there - no excuses.
5. Know what you stand for
What are your values? It's easier to believe in ourselves when we know who we are. What we believe in, as the core to our being. This reveals what we prioritize.
6. Appreciate compliments
Don't shrug off compliments, or say "oh this silly thing?" or "really? I feel like shit today". If someone is admiring you, accept it. And release any thoughts that lead you to think otherwise. Just how you might compliment others, let others do the same for you, and just be gracious, and then let it soak in, and appreciate it.
7. Knowledge is power
The more you experience, learn, and grow the more you will believe in yourself. Arm yourself with all of the information, it is all at your finger tips. What are 3 topics you are passionate about, and learn something about 1 of them ever day. This builds belief in oneself because you feel empowered through knowledge.
